Step-by-Step Guide
Sign in to Microsoft Teams
Open Microsoft Teams through the desktop app, web browser (teams.microsoft.com), or mobile app. Sign in with your Microsoft account credentials.
Tips
- •Make sure you're logged into the correct Microsoft account
- •If you use Teams for work and personal, verify which account you're managing
Leave All Teams and Channels
Click on the 'Teams' icon in the left sidebar. For each team you're a member of, click the three dots (More options) next to the team name and select 'Leave team'. Repeat this for all teams you've joined.
Tips
- •You cannot leave a team if you're the only owner - you must transfer ownership or delete the team first
- •Make a list of all teams before starting to ensure you don't miss any
Warnings
- •Leaving a team removes your access to all conversations, files, and meeting recordings in that team
- •You cannot rejoin private teams without being re-invited
Delete Your Chat History
Go to the 'Chat' section in the left sidebar. For each conversation, hover over it, click the three dots (More options), and select 'Delete chat'. This removes the conversation from your view only - other participants will still see their copies.
Tips
- •This only removes chats from your view, not from other participants
- •Consider exporting important conversations before deletion
Remove Teams Data and Files
Access your OneDrive and SharePoint to delete any files you've shared in Teams. Go to Files in Teams, then remove any personal files stored there. Remember that shared team files are stored in SharePoint and may require team owner permissions to delete.
Warnings
- •Team files are stored in SharePoint and will remain unless deleted by team owners
- •Deleting files removes them for all team members who have access
Close Your Microsoft Account (Optional)
If you want to completely close your Microsoft account (which includes Teams, Outlook, OneDrive, and other services), go to account.microsoft.com, sign in, select 'Security', then 'More security options', and choose 'Close my account'. This is permanent and affects all Microsoft services.
Tips
- •Closing your Microsoft account affects all Microsoft services, not just Teams
- •Consider if you need access to Outlook, OneDrive, Xbox, or other Microsoft services
- •There's a 60-day waiting period before permanent deletion
